Reposting what I wrote in another video Theres another bit of good news related to the subject of AI. The AI bubble seems to be bursting soon. AI programs require a ton of money to work (chat gpt for example is burning 700k per day, if not more). These programs are extremely expensive and are only allowed to continue existing because people like Altman are promissing that this tech will change the world to the big companies of the industry, like Apple or Microsoft... but as the years go, AI is slowly running out of data to steal, so there will never trully be an AI revolution in the way Altmans promissing. When Apple, Microsoft, Meta etc... realize that theyve been fooled, they will start cutting the budget on AI companies... wich will in turn lead to them to start having financial problems (as AI alone is deeply unproffitable), wich will be made even worse by the lawsuits from artists. The companies will become unable to keep the servers going and eventually theyll have to shut down. I recomend listening to Ed Zitrons podcast, "Better Offline", if you want to know more about this. Tldr theres a strong chance that AI will collapse in the upcoming years, but we as artists gotta stay strong.

Your are right. I am sick of art channels too because they always stick to how to draw eyes or landscape but at a beginner level. Nobody is taking it to intermediate or advanced level which makes all the content on art channels 99% the same but with a different face explaining. Your channel is the only channel that talks to artist on all levels when it comes to how to improve and work or getting jobs... etc. I am finding that even most paid courses and tutorials are kinda the same too like either the internet is becoming crowded with amateur artists or that they are not putting the effort to make a decent course or fail to communicate. I graduated from Mechanical Engineering and when I see art courses on youtube or even paid courses, there are a lot of explaining that needs to be made and it is missing from the course which leads me to not learning enough or not learning what is expected from the course. The whole reason why art and artists are interesting is because we as in general people don't know how they think and make the decisions to make art because you don't have a clear view of what the end result would be and you certainly don't know how to exactly get there unlike math and engineering. In my opinion, artists should put more effort into talking about their process and their decisions when making process videos or trying to teach. If you improve 30% by watching a process video without the talk about why each decision was made, you can improve at least 80% if the artist talks about every decision they made even if it is after the art was made.

unfortunately, if you're at that level, you'll only get value from paid courses. The fact is, that if a pro posted university level, pro courses on youtube, only a small number of people would click, resulting in VERY little money, and then the information becomes under valued. Most youtube content is for beginners, because its the largest market of potential clicks. Until human nature changes, that's what we'll get. My most valuable videos were only getting like <3000 views. Thats not worth it for me to stop doing my contract work to make it. BUT... if I make that IN DEPTH pro level tutorial for sale? Its actually valued, and makes it worth my time to make. I don't know what other artists paid courses are like, but mine are usually several hours long, with every brush stroke shown. Nothing is hidden. But that's what I would teach at an art school.

I'm an animation and game art student (with a focus on game art), and for the last few months I've been just constantly worried about what I'm gonna do when I'll graduate next year, with all the layoffs in literally every major studio and the bs with AI ravaging through the industry. I think I needed this video to remind me of an advice I heard in my first year: the people that succeed in the industry aren't the smartest ones, or the most gifted ones. It's those who persist. Thank you for this!

I've been saying this for a while, but I feel a lot of the more popular UA-cam channels are to blame for people not only maybe loosing interest in art channels but also loosing faith in themselves I mean how many videos are out there with the message "you don't need to draw everyday" "you don't need to sacrifice anything" basically telling you it's ok to not work hard, it's ok to not pursue things passionately I might my dating myself here but when people were on crimson daggers the vibe was the absolute opposite and some amazing artists came out of that And btw we're talking about pursuing art as a job where most of the time there is a quality standard (if its a hobby you can so whatever) How many UA-camrs sell courses when they themselves don't really understand what they're talking about or act like their course is the one thing missing in your journey I mostly now just watch people who just paint and talk about it passionately Tips , tricks , brushes , guides , find your style , yassify , roasting , I drew for x time , i locked myself in a basement with my childhood art for a week These videos have been IMO been doing a disservice /Rant

(Feeding the algorithm by commenting.) Thank you for these videos, Trent! Every time I hit a rough patch in my art or writing, I come back here to this channel. You've brought me a lot of hope when making art over the years. Although I'm no longer pursuing the goal of being an industry professional in art, I always find these videos valuable whenever I'm down in the dumps about things. Your videos have always felt like mini counseling sessions for me, and they bring so much hope and happiness to others. As I pursue my new goal of becoming a licensed counselor, I hope that I'll be able to inspire people the way you do! And, maybe, help people find their own artistic passions along the way! Besides, what better artist to be than the one that helps to create "new artists" who go on to create even more new artists? Isn't that what this is all about at the end? To endlessly inspire and connect with others even beyond your time on this earth? At least, that's where I find beauty in art :)

But in all seriousness, the rage baiting and fear mongering content is getting old. While at the same time, I appreciate that people are doing their damndest to raise awareness and keep these unethical offenders in check. I've been watching your videos since around 2019, and while I came for the tutorials, I stayed for the wisdom and insight needed to turn a humble art hobby into a passionate career. Personally, "AI replacing art" is not a big issue. AI is affecting mostly artists who are just earning from commissions or single piece illustrations. I see AI as a chance to force these artists to evolve and learn the true value of the industry Like Trent said, there are plenty of clients who are still looking for talents.

You are not wrong in your statements, but are several things together in a perfect storm, social chaos, worst economy in the last more than 5 decades because the Bidenflacion is worst than the 2008 economic crash, and YT in general is going down hard because honestly speaking is polluted with too much low quality content, I agree with you about AI mostly because honestly speaking AI is to good enough yet, probably in the future but not at the moment, I will say DEI killed the American entertainment industry and ppl is sick of it, and no one can relay in YT as main income anymore, because YT policies change constantly and the whole social media environment is changing drastically in not very positive ways, right now 3 of 5 contracts I receive are a pain in the A** because DEI no sense and I reject any contract that mention even lightly DEI and woke non sense, I know my craft and I like to work with professionals that has the same goal I have ENTERTAIMENT no political indoctrination or activism propaganda, you want a gay character sorry go find a different studio because I will not compromise my principles faith and convictions for money and I can sit and watch Tv until I die without need of work with the money I already have then I believe that is not give up is just make a stance, and I am clear with my employees, leave your politics ideology and faith home and do not bring them to work, here we create entertainment not propaganda you dislike my way of thinking simple you know where is the door and can leave because will take me less than a day to replace you, then I believe as me many creators and artist are just fed up with the non sense and are taking a break, like see it from this perspective, you have a sustainable mainstream income with your own webpage like one example of an art youtube RossDraws, with his own webpage he have the bootcamps with over 8k students at a minimum rate of over US$200 that is more than fifteen thousand dollars and is pre-made content what means he doesn't need to put much effort anymore or be dealing with the YT algorithm and drama that is a real headache; if you see it from my perspective: Why I will finance YT???? because the ads revenew keeps going down day by day, then why I will finance the Adobe Ai training if is not mine or keep financing PS that I will not own???? is just common sense and artist are just realizing what I saw decades ago, I got rid of all subscription model software almost a decade ago and is why I have money in my pocket now, the YT drama is about effort/reward balance, is not worth anymore for a professional waste their time creating content for YT and I really appreciate people like you that actually try to contribute and help in the artists community you got the thumbs up and a new sub

I loved Ethan. He was a fresh air in the art industry. He made me laugh sometimes. But it was nice to have light drama in the art industry. People want to have fun. Movies are boring. Videogames are boring. TV shows are boring. Youtuve channel are boring. I saw an art tutorial so boring I was screaming at the screen why this guy speak sooooo slow?'??? why art tutorials are so f boring!!!!! where is your passion????Da Vinci travelled 200 km just tostudy a crossbow. Why art tutorials can be like that? Im talking about Marc Brunet, Proko, Pablo Muñoz. You fall down sleeping while watching their tutorials. They should make them more exiting. More challenging. Just like Peter Han, Aaron Blaise or Glenn Vilpu. Lets go to the zoo and draw live animals. Jazza is great at this but his art level is not that great but his videos are enternainent. People want to have fun. Period. Simple. MAke video games FUN!!! Thats why everyone is playing old RPG bcs they were fun. I cant fininsh video game anymore bcs of how boring they are. And why all the woke stuff I cant even started.

Art is always a true and unique way of seeing the world, AI can imitate the way it looks, but just like the YT algorithm she will always be behind the "audience", because AI is not original, just he steals, he does not appropriate things. That's why I subscribed to this channel and started my own channel (not this account).

hi trent .. I love your '' whiskey & cigars smooth ' sexy voice :3 haha. joking :) and what's keep me always returning to your channel is your practical advices/tips and tricks . . and when you made some hardware reviews I felt you were sincere person that wasn't selling something to someone or shadowing a brand in favor of another on purpose . .. also honest talk about in and outs of what's being and artist and working for someone os something ( like a big gaming Co.) .. aside of all that .. about ai and art industry etc.. the main problem ( in my view) is that many game Co. grew so much .. got too much greed .. expanded .. making bubble .. and if I add that we are in a world economical and political shift ( change of an era or whatever). this will also impact in those Co. .. its not only ai . .. of course game industry will continue to exist. but sadly for those people who had jobs greed and foolish expansionism now is taking its payback .. :/. about ai . ahh its a whole topic .. I lice technology and moving forward .. but I think the ai was developed /presented? as a replacement not as a tool .. on the other side if I make a piece of art why I can't protect it from an ai ? ( which is a company making money behind) and I don't think those anti ai theft ai programs like cloak shade or something( I can recall the name) . is doing something .

Personally I’ve been getting annoyed by videos “This is how I make $300,000 a year as an artist”…. Then they admit their profit comes from UA-cam ads. Disheartening to see that none of it comes from commissions, sales of prints, or getting hired as a full time artist. Are you still “making money as an artist” at that point or just monetizing videos talking about art? Much happier to watch an artist create something while talking about why they make certain decisions. Even “this is how I landed an art job at _____”. Or “spent X amount to have a booth at a convention and here was the results”. Or hired an art rep to sell my art, this is what I pay them, this is how it helped my business grow, etc etc.

  • @solyftwyn
    @solyftwyn 3 дні тому

Not specific to you, but my experience in general with my art education youtuber experience is that at a point, I realized, making these videos is them making money. that is obvious but like, they talk about how you can do it too, you can do it too. but you, the industry pros, have to have a youtube side hustle, a brush selling side hustle, sell art courses. so the illusion just kinda starts to come apart. if you have to do this to keep yourself fed and happy, how can we believe that there's room and money enough in the industry to feed and keep us happy too? I'm going to keep making art, I'm going to keep watching your videos, but its very hard for me to be convinced that its true what you say that there's a living to be made. I can't be a teacher, I cant be a youtuber. I am too introverted. so I can't be what you are, I can hope there's art jobs for introverts. Anyway, I don't have any hate for you making your money off of this, we live in a society where art is the first thing to go when the economy stumbles. I'm glad you and other artists make money however you can. but the student to teacher pipeline only leaves so many positions open and so these sorts of videos just dont inspire the hope they did at first if that makes sense. On a more positive note, what I would more enjoy watching is you drawing and maybe talking about the content you are drawing. Tell us about the character you are drawing, why you made the choices you made to her appearance, her background and stuff. I would like that.

I make videos because people ask me to teach them. I also make very little from YT ads. Most of my income has come from my contract work, or investments, which is why I slowed down on UA-cam and gumroad. But I get why you’d feel that way about other UA-camrs.

I’m probably in the minority on this, but I personally have a massive pet peeve against the channels that have made a full time living out of telling others how to make a full time living on art, despite not having ANY sort of digital footprint as an artist. I won’t call her out by name because I don’t want to give her any more attention, but one of the biggest culprits of this absolutely blew up over the last few years putting out videos claiming to have made “millions” from her art, and when you do a deep dive into her online, there is virtually no record of her creating any art whatsoever. She even has a web store that she allegedly makes “thousands per month” from, but when you actually go to it, all there is is a course claiming to teach you how to make it as an artist. Things like that piss me off tremendously, as opposed to genuine advice from people like you who have actually earned their place in the art community and various industries.

I’m 45 years old and I have put art on the back burner since my mid twenties due to going all in and providing for my family, I just recently got the drive to convince my self to get back into it and see what I can do then I ran into this world of Ai generated Illustrations which was a bit discouraging however there is no putting out the embers of wanting to create, everyday that I haven’t has felt like a day lost. Thank you for creating this video and reminding me that the passion for art is real and worth pursuing regardless of monetary gains

As a person who always wanted to be an artist or professional artist but went down the path of architecture - i truely enjoy watching tutorials as my drawing/sketching skills have got rusty. I also do enjoy watching those videos of people just documenting them working on a piece. My favorite though is the walk throughs of sketch books - and how rhey provide commentary especially if they can show/point out by the end of the boom how their skills have improved or how they tried something different than at then at the start.

Not sick of art channels, I just want more about the process. I want to know how artist think through the different phases of a project, I want to know how they problem solve.

I think most people only view what the platforms show them, hence the pay wall. Hardly anyone goes out of their way to type in a name of an artist to see what they have done. No they are doom scrolling and happen to see it because they still follow you and the platform showed it to them.

No. I’m saying that making concept art , or digital art requires more than clicking a button.

I'd like to see a video on the steps you would take to feel confident as an aspiring artist, when your skills aren't quite there yet even with perhaps your first paid job under your belt. Take your own spin on this of course, because there will always be some amount of emotional trepidation when doing artwork. That comes with the territory. But building that internal confidence through courage despite fear as well as looking back on the history of what you already accomplished, and taking pride in it not because the accomplishments are grand, but because they are yours. And that is what matters. Patience to know that genuine effort is rewarded, even if it takes years or decades, and resilience to keep trying in the face of difficulties. Everyone started from nothing at one point, the question is, how far are you willing to go? Can you take joy in the struggles knowing that they will refine you?

I gave up on art when I was 12 for many reasons, and picked it up again at 24 when I was lost in life. When this whole AI thing happened, I wasn't completely surprised since I like to follow new tech or possible future tech. But I knew I did not want to give up on my art again. I'm 29 now, I haven't reached all of my goals yet, but there is so much to learn and I love it. It's one of the reasons I wanted to pursue the arts. There is always something new you can learn or a new project you can start. It never ends unless you choose to stop.

The “anime close up shot” was used IN-GAME when viewing your party. Almost all of the finalized drawings were used in the game. As for portfolio stuff Japanese Developers still do all of this.

"Art education on YT is dead" is such a bullshit. There's new channel on YT called "LinesSensei". He got 25k followers in 2 month! I've never seen educational art channels grow that fast before. Also imo, YT algorythm is much smarter than you might think. I personally don't see any "clickbaity" art videos because I just don't watch them. If you see trash videos in your YT recommendation, it's probably because you watch them.

Not sick or tired of any Art Channels, because I mainly follow art channels like yours. Channels that spend most of their efforts creating and showcasing awesome Art along with the "process" and a few tutorials here and there. Same on Instagram, where I have just under 1k followers(about to hit 1k, huzzahs!) and I had to jump on trend after trend, and jump through hurdles just to get my followers, BUT, I did that at just about any other job I was at too, and let me tell you I had A LOT of different types of jobs and was not fulfilled at any of them. So I decided, if I am gonna jump through hurdles and act like a Clown, it's gonna be for something I love and fulfills me, and that's being a Concept Artist. Not a pro yet, but I WILL BE. (Btw, switched to my "Business profile" which hasn't really been touched since I created it, just to respond to this video. for... REASONS....) 😅

The reason I used to watch art channels was to get inspired and see how skilled artists think and create their works. Nowadays, it seems like the content is quite polluted and confusing. I start watching with the intention of learning how to draw, but end up having a nervous crisis, worried about things that might not even happen. I would like to see videos where the artist simply expresses their joy in doing their work. That's why I've been following your work for so long, because to me, you have fun doing what you do. You could even make a video just doodling on the ground with your finger, and I would watch it.
